The Palestinian interior ministry has called on the Egyptian authorities to conduct an immediate investigation into the killing of a Palestinian fisherman and hold the perpetrators accountable.

In a press release on Saturday, spokesman for the interior ministry Iyad al-Bazam said that one of the Palestinian fishing boats was shot directly by the Egyptian army on Friday evening near the maritime border as fishermen were working inside Gaza waters.

Bazam added that the shooting attack seriously wounded fisherman Abdullah Zaidan, 32, who succumbed to his injuries later on Saturday in a local hospital.

He affirmed that the fishing boat Zaidan was aboard did not cross into Egypt’s territorial waters, according to preliminary investigations
