Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed Monday morning al-Aqsa Mosque via the Israeli-controlled al-Magharibeh Gate under heavy protection of police forces.

The settlers’ break-in into the holy shrine is considered the first since Friday’s shooting incident during which three Palestinians were killed and two Israeli police officers were pronounced dead.

Israeli police forces intensified their presence in the compound since the early morning hours to provide protection for the settlers’ break-in.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation authorities continued to ban Palestinians’ access into the Mosque.

Occupied Jerusalem has witnessed escalated tensions since Friday when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu banned the entry of Palestinian worshipers into al-Aqsa Mosque.
