RAMALLAH -- Israeli troops stormed the central West Bank village of Nabi Saleh overnight Tuesday, ransacking several homes and confiscating computers and cell phones, according to the local popular resistance movement.
The movement’s media office told Ma'an that Israeli soldiers raided the homes of detained community leader Bassem Tamimi and coordinator of the popular resistance movement Naji Tamimi.
Naji Tamimi told reporters that troops confiscated four computers, a camera, internet equipment, a cell phone, documents and certificates as well as copies of the magazine Qawim (Resist) issued by the movement, and reports by Israeli rights group B'Tselem about the village.
In the past two weeks, the army has raided Nabi Saleh almost every night, a statement from the popular committee said.
Residents of Nabi Saleh and their local and international supporters demonstrate each week against a nearby settlement's encroachment toward lands owned by the village. Israel has cracked down on villagers, carrying out night raids and arresting accused stone-throwers.
In early 2011, Israeli forces photographed all the children in Nabi Saleh during night raids on homes, and many minors were later arrested in the village.
In December 2011, a tear-gas canister killed Mustafa Tamimi, a resident of the village. Nabi Saleh non-violence activist Bassem Tamimi has been in Israeli jail for 11 months, and appeared in military court in February to deny charges of incitement and organizing "illegal protests".
